But as Semisonic put it, every new beginning is just another beginning's end.

When we started telling friends about Deadend, one of the most frequent responses we received was, "isn't "Deadend" too cynical a name for a culture/clothing company?". It's a fair question, considering the cultural climate we live in and the miserable grumps that we are. But as on-brand as the name "Deadend" is for us, it didn't come from a cynical place. We decided to call ourselves Deadend because it has been our experience that life -and creativity, and innovation- flourishes, thrives, once you've hit a dead end. Necessity, meet Invention.
Now what dead end are we talking about, you might ask. And here comes the cynical part: As a couple of rapidly-ageing punks who grew up in the nineties, we can't help feeling that culturally, artistically, intellectually, philosophically, the world has hit a bit of a dead end. We're all throwing our shit -ideas, art, technology- on the same damn wall and hoping that something will stick. It's why our movies, music, fashion, even our politics, have all started looking and sounding and feeling the same. The dead end we are faced with is not one of poverty or desperation (though those things of course exist in terrifying degrees), but of same-ness.
Somewhere between obsessively downloading pirated MP3s and passively allowing the algorithm to dictate the soundtrack of our lives, we let the internet drive the underground under the ground. We traded gangbangs for mukbangs, and our agency, curiosity, and uniqueness, for convenience. The Matrix may or may not have been a documentary, but it sure as hell was an accurate metaphor for where we now find ourselves in 2024. Simply put, we created Deadend to force a glitch in the matrix. To offer you a counterpoint, an alternative, to the one-size-fits-all fashion, art and culture that plague our feeds today. We hope you enjoy it as much as we do.
